Gowanus Canal (In Progress)
Oil on Canvas, 22" x 14"
Started May, 2005. 6.75 hours.
This is a view from directly under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway where it crosses over the Gowanus Canal. The bridge in the middle distance is the F train, which crosses over the canal on its way into prosperous Park Slope. Downtown Brooklyn is visible in the distance.
To the right is a Lowe's and a PathMark supermarket; to the left is what I think is a cement plant. The barge on the left is itinerant, it arrives filled with rocks and gets taken away by a tugboat when all the rocks have been scooped out.
At one point I held up six lanes of traffic and got a severe yelling at by the drawbridge attendant when I failed to notice that the tug was coming through and stayed smack in the middle of the bridge in my usual painting trance.
